Positive Parenting

There are many effective parenting skills that help build a happy home. Positive parenting is one of the best ways to raise a family. Parents who use a positive approach with their children tend to see more positive outcomes. Discipline is quite possibly the most difficult aspects of parenting. Rather than traditional methods of discipline which include spanking and time-out, this approach allows children to fully understand the consequences of certain actions. One way to do such a thing is to use natural and logical consequences.

Natural consequences allow children to see the direct effects of their behavior. Sometimes interfering may not fully teach your child the consequences of their actions. Children who experience a natural consequence will receive a life lesson worth remembering. For example, if your child refuses to wear mittens, they will will have cold hands. This may teach them to take better precautions in the future. Of course, only use natural consequences when it does not directly affect your child's health or safety.

Logical consequences illustrate the effect of your child's actions if the natural consequence is not immediate. These consequences will allow your child to directly connect their actions with an effect, teaching them to take a different course of action in the future. An example of this type of consequence is a child who forgets to return a movie on time and receives a late fee. Traditional methods of discipline such as spanking will only create resentment and fear and may not truly teach your child why their behavior requires modification. With positive parenting, on the other hand, you return the movie and deduct the fee from their allowance or have them work it off. This way, they will easily see why they should behave differently in the future.

Overall, positive parenting empowers children to understand their choices and the consequences of their behavior. With such lessons, they will be able to make better decisions in the future not because they are scared of being disciplined, but because they realize the negative effects they will personally encounter.
