How would you like to have Half Hollow Hills High School East for your high school name?  The HHHHSE principal and backed by the district school superintendent, Dr. Sheldon Karnilow  have disbanded Ichthus, a student Christian club.  The four year old club with a roster of 55 students and 30 regular members is the results of efforts by a student now graduated.    The sister of the student organizer now attends the school and desired to participate. 

The high school has sixty student clubs which include a gay-straight alliance, fashion club, future lawyers of America and a Constitution club.  The school principal makes  decisions regarding school clubs based on interest and a faculty/staff advisor.  Attorney David Cortman rejects the principals contention that the club has only 6 or 7 regular student attendees.  Dr. Karnilow denies discrimination charges saying it was a budgetary decision.

The Arizona based Alliance Defense Fund has filled a lawsuit in the Islip U.S. District Court  on behalf of a Christian student against the HHHHSE, in Dix Hills, New York a Long Island town.  Ichthus, was initially formed only after the parent threatened legal action.  The parent know only as Mrs. “P” has taken legal action after the school board rejected the request to reinstate the club.

In an effort to appease and avoid a lawsuit Dr. “K” offered transportation for the daughter to another district’s high school with an Ichthus Club with greater attendance.  This requires the student to leave her last period early, miss some work, travel and then get her own transportation home.

Mrs. “P”, claims that the district's other high school will not allow her daughter to attend its Ichthus club.  Karnilow indicated that if there is sufficient student interest, the district will consider reinstating the club next year.  The ADF intends to file an injunction if the club is not reinstated immediately.
