Developing a Taste for Healthy Foods ******

Mom, what are you feeding your children?  Do they even know what fresh fruits and vegetables look like?  If you are a stay at home Mom, chances are that they are exposed to healthy foods.  However, many moms work and just don't have the time to prepare healthy meals, much less healthy snacks.

City children often have no idea what some of our fruits and vegetables taste like.  If they were to be exposed to vegetable soup, they would possibly say yuck! and spit it out.  Our taste is developed as we experience different foods and different methods of preparing them.

Many families habitually purchase fast foods on the way home from work, school, play or any other activity.  The purchases are generally made at the really fast food places, like McDonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Popeye’s or such.  That's because they are both fast and cheap.

Children develop a taste for fried foods and soft drinks.  If moms planned ahead they could purchase healthier foods and enlist the children to help prepare them.  Children can put away groceries and they can wash fruits and vegetables that are ready to be used for the next meal.

Children need to learn to shop wisely, cook healthy foods and they need to develop a taste for then too.  Expose your family to variety and encourage them to taste.  Provide healthy alternatives to fried, processed and snacks.
