Moms and Dads often fail to realize that a child needs glasses. This happens quite easily when both parents work. They may not notice that their child has trouble seeing things at a distance. A child that reads may have trouble focusing and it may be noticed sooner. Schools may offer a scaled down version of eye testing or none at all. Children that have trouble reading the board while in their seat probably need an eye exam.
Parents are often concerned that a child cannot keep up with glasses. Those that really need glasses do not have trouble keeping up with them because they wear them all the time. Wearing glasses is so common. Today there is even less cause for teasing remarks by their peers. Children once faced and tolerated unmerciful teasing about their eyesight problems. Many children even like the idea of wearing glasses.
The kind of frame a parent should choose for their child will depend on their pocket book, the activity level of the child and one's personal preference. There are many products to choose from. The choice often comes down to appearance.
Frames are made of a number of metals and sometimes a combination of metals. The following chart shows a number of metals and their strong or weak points.
