Gold has many uses but the first and primary use is jewelry. The value of gold fluctuates making the price of jewelry change depending on the date of sale. The karat weight of 10, 14, or 24 also determines the price. The higher the karat weight the softer the metal. Usually other alloys are added to make gold hard enough to retain its shape for jewelry.
Gold also is valued according to rarity of item. Gold are items found in Egypt, the Middle Ease and the Persian Empire have historic value. The 1800’s are famous for the many gold rushes occurring during that period.

Interestingly gold can be eaten. Why anyone would desire to eat this precious metal is surprising. It is non-toxic and used as a decoration in some food and drinks. Gold is a symbol of rarity, achievement and victory. The highest Olympic award is gold.
