This Christmas some news programs carried the story of the mother that entered the hospital to delivered her new born and doctors and nurses were shocked and highly disturbed when the mother suddenly died.
Everything was done to revive and save the mother but when all efforts failed the concern turned to saving the child. They quickly preformed a cesarean to take the child in hopes of saving it. The baby also was lifeless.
Much to the surprise and pleasure of everyone the mother suddenly awoke. Shortly thereafter the baby also began breathing. Doctors and nurses are said to have been clueless and questioned how this could happen. The father was jubilant and the mother a bit groggy was equally glad to still be here and relieved that her newborn was apparently alive and healthy.
Often new fathers check their newborns for all five fingers and toes on each hand and foot. But this father was more than relieved to simply have a living mother and child.
I don't doubt that miracles happen. Some qualify miracles as things that have no logical or scientific explanation. To this family this was a miracle. It is a miracle in my estimation when a surgeon performs any operation and the patient survives.
Anesthesiology is a miracle used in surgical procedures. It allows surgeons to open up the body and perform miracles, close the body and send the patient back to their love ones with prospects for a fuller more productive life.

Sometimes the anesthetist under or over estimates the amount of sleep enhancement and patients either don't wake up, wake up too soon or perhaps as in this case wake up a little later than expected.
The Christmas miracle is an interesting story. It will be interesting to see how this family responds as the years go by.
