Energy Saver Tips for families are abundant. Just pick and choose the ones that are economically sensible for your family.
Get a free online home energy check up from your power company and see where you can save.
Check weather stripping around windows and doors. Air leaks can cause your heating and cooling cost to escalate and you systems to work overtime.
When your refer gets old, get a later model for energy savings. Avoid placing it outside your home. Refers in garages cost you $100 more per year to operate.
Set your
AC and Heat to 68* and 78* and leave it alone. The 68* is the winter setting and the 78* setting is the summer recommendation. Use your ceiling fans to move air. Remember to reset the blades if you have reversible blade fans.
Don't fail or forget to change your AC filter. This is a monthly chore that often is neglected because homemakers think it is not nearly as important as it really is.
Check your insulation. Good insulation will reduce the time it takes your system to heat or cool your home. If it needs increased "R" factor make it a priority.
Replace traditional light bulbs with CFL bulbs. Do this as the conventional types need replacements. See my earlier post.
Power companies recommend high efficiency heat pumps. Even better is the geothermal heating and cooling systems. These are environmentally friendly and if you can believe the Department of Energy, they are the most efficient way to heat or cool your home.
Think of other ways to take advantage of all the free offers, tips and government rebates for energy savings for your family.
