I can’t think of a more unpopular subject than the question of "Are you ready to die". Yet, many people die years before they think they should. Generally, we think old people die without considering the unexpected accident or illness that take others prematurely.
We think life owes us longevity and happiness without ever considering anything else. In the real world babies die, children die, teens die, young adults die and when they die family and friends are devastated. Many are unprepared to accept the realities of early deaths.
It should behoove each of us to prepare to die. We should live each day to it’s fullest making efforts to leave this world a better place than when we entered it. If we can look in the mirror without regretting who we are, what we have done and see a person looking back that has character and integrity that is a reasonable summation of a life well lived.
To be prepared will mean many different things to different people. For some it means to have all their financial matters in order. For others it may mean to say your last good byes and ask forgiveness of any you have wronged. It could also mean that you have lived as long as you wish to live.
If we have lived as long as we wish to live them we may be either aged, ill or mentally disturbed. We have not yet come to believe that life is something that we have control over. Although there is a segment of society that would like to relegate this decision to the individual, the government or medical doctors.
Then there is the question of “eternity”. You may have lived your life not thinking or believing that eternity mattered. When you are facing death, your eyes may be opened as well as your mind to the reality of eternity.
