A good parent will consider and make plans for the future of their children. Their concerns will be in the range of health, education, appearance, behavior and the choices of their friends and plans for their future.
Before a couple marries they generally contemplate having a family. Pregnancies require prenatal care and physicians to follow the development of new life as well as care for the health of the mother. Obstetricians and pediatricians are chosen based on recommendations of friends and family.
Parents began early to prepare for the financial needs to educate their offspring in a manner that will allow them to be proud and the children to accomplish their desired goals.
Children began making choices that determine their future early in life. Parents must guide and protect them until they are capable of making good decisions and demonstrating good judgment.
A parent that has high ethics and standards expects the same from their children. Parents expect the appearance of their children to be an example of these ethics and standards. Today’s society and norms lack and actually run counter to these ideals.
The behavior exemplified by today’s children as seen on the evening news and demonstrated in public or private educational programs is less than what is desired. Poor behavior cannot be assigned to all children, but all children are repeatedly exposed to it. When bad behavior is rewarded or goes unpunished or corrected it plants a seed of acceptance.
The choices children make as they select friends are a critical part of their growing up process. The saying "he who plays with fire will get burned" applies to friendship choices. Parents should encourage friendships that will raise not lower the child’s abilities to achieve and set life goals.
