What Will America Be Like in Years to Come

I ask myself, what will America be like in the years to come. I shutter to even think about it. As a senior citizen, I don’t expect to loose my social security benefits yet, but I don’t think they will be available for my children or their children. Our country is headed down a path that would bankrupt any household or small business if they practiced economics the same way our politicians are doing.
Since when do Americans let congress pass legislation that affects their pocketbooks so drastically without reading the bill first?
NOW, there is the expectation that this Health Care Bill will not even be written, which means they can’t possibly read it, and they are being asked to pass it!
There is undoubtedly a lot of pork or waste in our current health care system. Years ago I recall just such an episode. An accident involving a child occurred and the mother insisted that the child be transported in Life Flight rather that the EMS transport vehicle that was present, because “insurance will pay for it and I want to ride in the helicopter”.
Then there are repeated examples of patients insisting that doctors prescribe name brand medications that they have seen advertised on TV or they know someone that takes them. Doctors are faced with patients that presume they know what is best. Why do they go to the doctor in the first place?
Doctors are leaving their medical practices because their insurance premiums are more than they can earn. Surgeons have premiums so high that they have to perform an extremely high number of operations just to pay the premiums. Many are saying it’s not worth it. They leave their chosen field and settle for one with less legal risk.
Today’s news repeats the percentages of the uninsured and tells us that they don’t have insurance because they choose to spend their income some other way. That’s right, the young don’t have it because they don’t feel the necessity. They think they are invincible. Families that don’t have insurance may have a house payment that eats up their income or they couldn’t take a vacation if they paid for their insurance. Those without insurance go to the ER and are treated. Taxpayers and the insured pay for their care through increased premiums and higher taxes.
Politicians are arguing that health care cost would decrease if people were insured because they would get treatment before an illness developed into something worse. That remains to been seen just as “what America will be like in years to come” remains to be seen.
