Hand-me-downs & Honey Do's Vs. Affluence

Can you remember when marriages were good and people dreamed about their future?  Best friends lived nearby and visited often.  Saturdays Dad was repairing things that Mom called “honey do’s”.  Mom spent the day about like she spent any other day besides Sunday.

As the children grew up they may have remarked about wanting something new to call their own.  Hand-me-downs were expected.  There were no garbage collectors that came down the street twice each week to take away the family trash.  Instead the compost pile was used and there were rarely any grocery boxes from cereal, chips or crackers.  Things were homemade and they were good and good for you.  A wasteful person was someone that knew they could replace it without any trouble or perhaps much cost.

All this saving and keeping makes me think about life and how it slips away when we aren’t looking.  A family member or friend leaves this world for a better one, but we are struck with the pain of missing them.  We have to learn the lesson that some things can’t be replaced or duplicated.  Take advantage of every opportunity and relationship.  Use and care for both.  Some things are worth taking care of and keeping.
